Forensic Interviews

forensic interview

Forensic interviews are legally defensible, information-gathering interviews conducted by specially trained professionals at the request of law enforcement or the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS).

Interviews are recorded to maintain an accurate record of what was stated during the interview and to minimize the number of times a child must tell their story. Although the video recording is not typically admissible in court due to hearsay rules, the interview is conducted in a manner that follows legal criteria. The forensic interview recording preserves the child’s statements and is reviewed by members of the multidisciplinary team as part of the investigation.
